House Showings, Potty Training & Coffee.

Here's a little run down of our week. So we have had a million showings, honestly, but turns out our backyard is kind of a deal breaker for everyone. Which is funny to me because we never thought twice about it as buyers, but maybe we were just naive as first timers, and it is obviously the reason we chose to move, so I guess joke's on us. I was confident that showing our house a bunch would be a good thing, like I would keep my house super clean all the time and we would just go on a bunch of fun outings while people were here, and hahahahaha no. That's actually not even remotely close to how it works. It's more like fourteen minutes before each showing I shove evvvvverything anywhere I can (and obviously can't find anything later because I can't remember where I shoved it) and I swiffer our barefoot selves out the back door. The fact that my kids can fully destroy the entire house in one hour + one meal in between every showing, has me completely baffled, and completely drained.

For the record, a list of things to never have in your home while you are trying to sell it and have toddlers. 1. Stickers. 2. Sticker books. 3. Crayons. 4. Chapstick. 5. Toilet Paper 6. Yogurt 7. Toothpaste 8. Did I mention stickers?

Eloise decided that this would be a good week to potty train herself, which I am one hundred light years away from being ready for, but apparently there is nothing more fun to her than taking a diaper off and leaving it somewhere so she can go flush half a roll of toilet paper down the potty. I used to complain about rompers not having bottom snaps but lately it's all I want to put on her because she can't get it off herself. I put her in the car quickly the other morning to run to the hardware store and discovered as I was buckling her car seat that she didn't have a diaper on, just a bare ass in a mermaid nightgown headed out the door. All the apologies to whichever potential home buyer discovers that missing diaper, wherever it may be.

Claire is getting her molars & has been really clingy lately, which means I am usually holding her unless she is sleeping or in her car seat. This makes talking to contractors at the new house extra fun when I have a baby on my hip who is trying to chew on my hair, but I am strangely loving every single bit of this chaos because we have always dreamed of this stage of life. 

Our Ikea cabinet "guts" were installed yesterday & this morning, so we are ready for the next step which is our cabinet doors & all of the framing, and painting. Our doors won't be here for another week or so, so in the mean time we will store food & kitchen items in the laundry room and garage and attempt to still live out of the house starting next weekend-ish. This weekend & coming week will be nothing but a packing marathon, fueling up with lots of coffee & wine! Exciting times!!!

Again, I can't stress enough how thankful I am for all of you, and especially after all of the sweet comments on my post yesterday. Virtual hugs to each of you!! Have a happy happy weekend!!! XO

Five Years of Blogging!

This week, we are celebrating FIVE whole years of this blog & I honestly cannot believe it!!!! It is so funny to think back to how the blog started, I had just found out that I was pregnant with Harper, we were new to Atlanta, I had no friends here & I worked from home full time. I was desperate for a creative outlet & a way to connect with people, mainly my family & friends far away. My blog has grown into something I never, ever could have imagined, it is such a huge part of my life & I feel so so grateful for this space & this community.

I have learned so much over the last five years. I have learned how much you can feel like you know people just from reading their words & seeing their pictures, so many of you are friends to me & I have never met you in real life. I have learned that we all do life & motherhood differently, but we can still support each other & make incredible things happen. I have learned that the things I write can be taken out of context so easily, and I need to do a better job writing and sharing things the right way. I have had so many ups and downs, of sharing too much, or sharing not enough, and I have learned a lot about myself along the way. I am not the same person that I was when I first started blogging (I mean had no kids, and said fuck a lot) but I have loved being able to blog my way through it all. I have put it all out there, starting projects that I never finished, trying new things that failed miserably, and learning where to draw the line between real life & blog content. And although my blog content has changed so much over the years, I hope that ultimately people come to read here to feel inspired. To feel happy, and encouraged, and like they aren't alone. I really love you all for sticking with me and following along. For every single one of you who has written me an email or left a comment saying that I have inspired you in some way, you have no idea how much you all have inspired me in return.

I really don't know how to express my gratitude to all of you. It leaves me speechless. I AM SO INCREDIBLY THANKFUL FOR EACH OF YOU. For those of you who have been here from the start, for new readers who come here for the first time and decide to give my blog a chance and follow (because you know it's like starting a show right in the middle of a season) and honestly, to those of you who have given me criticism, I need that too. And most of all for all of your sweet comments & endless encouragement. I want to have a girls night with all of you, each of you, and have too many glasses of wine & watch the bachelor or talk about motherhood and life. I love you guys, I really really do!! THANK YOU FOR READING. 

Cheers to five years!

House Progress, Day 4.

It's official, we closed on our new house on Friday afternoon!! We were so excited to get started, and kicked off the weekend with a bottle of champs in the back yard!

Renovations started first thing this week!

Here is the before & a few progress shots of the kitchen. The kitchen had new appliances, beautiful (although very purple) granite & a new sink/faucet installed on top of bum cabinets, which kinda stinks. The cabinets needed a lot of work & were also very dated for the look we wanted, so we opted to pull the out all together. Since almost all of this was salvageable, we knew we could not just throw it away. We got in touch with our local Wounded Warriors Project where we were able to donate our entire kitchen to their Homes for Heroes operation. They will demo an entire kitchen, make repairs to the cabinetry & install it into a home that is being given to a veteran. Probably the highlight of us owning this home so far!
  

The demo is now complete & the team did such an amazing job. We are now working through the electrical & plumbing issues, have some drywall work to do this week once that is fixed. Then we will make way for forty thousand hours of Ikea cabinet assembly. Here's where the fun part comes in! We ordered custom cabinet doors from Semi-Handmade to give the kitchen a more custom look, they will arrive unfinished (wood shaker style) & we will paint them ourselves (once we decide on a color, no pressure).

Out back, we are ripping off the old deck that needed some major TLC & replacing some of the windows. There was a dated arch window above the breakfast nook that was going to need replaced but we decided to take it out all together to give it a more updated look. Today kicks off painting day for the exterior, then we will begin rebuilding the deck later this week.

I cannot wait for this outdoor space!!! It was one of the main reasons that we bought this home, I am so excited for the girls to make amazing memories out here!

Confessions

It's been one of those weeks over here, one that calls for jumbo margaritas & mom confessions.

1. I am having serious anxiety about sending the girls to preschool this Fall. Harper will be in pre-k and Eloise in the 2-3 year old class. I know Harper will do amazing & have so much fun, but I worry about Eloise having major separation anxiety. I have a feeling I will be going back to get her halfway through the day, and she will be staying home for another year. I also have anxiety thinking about actually getting up, ready, and out the door with three kids ON TIME to school, because I am going to fail with flying colors.

2. We have taken advantage of chick-fil-a & starbucks drive through more times this summer than I'd like to admit, and most of the time, nobody in my car is wearing shoes.

3. We binge watched the new season of Orange is the New Black in less than two weeks & I may have shed a tear when it ended. This season was my favorite yet!!

4. My mom-brain has gotten out of control. The other day I threw a shirt in the dryer to get rid of the fold wrinkles, and when I came back to get it a few minutes later, I am all "great our fucking dryer is broken, why is it making a water sound?!" Because I threw my shirt in the washer, that's why. By itself. No detergent. 

5. I have yet to pack a single thing & we are moving in two weeks.

6. I am ready for Fall & don't care who knows it.

7. Our pediatrician totally heard me mumble "asshole" under my breath when Eloise threw her peanut butter crackers on the floor during a fit of rage in the doctors office because I wouldn't give her the entire package of them. It's a good thing she knows us well or she probably would have noted in our chart.

8. We decided to go with a partial Ikea kitchen for the new house, all sixty five thousand boxes were delivered today & I am in total panic mode. What have we done.

Strawberry Shortcake Seven Ways

Strawberry shortcake is our absolute favorite summer dessert around here. My kids are addicted to strawberries, and when they are in season, we can't help but buy them in bulk. Last weekend we made homemade biscuits to throw together a super yummy shortcake, and it did not disappoint! Topped with vanilla frozen yogurt, whipped cream, sliced strawberries in homemade syrup & probably too much powdered sugar. If there is such a thing. 

I am rounding up seven of my favorite recipes for strawberry shortcake today, and thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to try them all before summer is over! ;)

1. Grilled Strawberry Shortcake Donuts // This totally counts as breakfast right?
2. Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwiches // I love these all tied up with bakers twine, so pretty for entertaining or birthday parties!
3. Strawberry Shortcake Overnight Oats // Overnight oats are so easy & make for such a good way to switch up breakfasts, especially for kids.

4. Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs // Perfect for entertaining, all food is more fun on a stick!

5. No-Bake Strawberry Icebox Cake // So easy & pretty. And perfect for kids that love graham crackers as much as mine do!
6. Homemade Strawberry Shortcake Popsicles // Another one the kids would love to eat, but also would have so much fun making.

7. Vegan Strawberry Shortbread Ice Cream // Only takes 15 minutes? Count me in!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, friends! We are so happy that the weekend is finally here, how about you?
We will be celebrating Brandon's birthday, which sounds like the perfect reason to procrastinate packing. Things are about to get crazy over the next few weeks, so we are looking forward to relaxing & spending time at the pool with our babes.

New House Kitchen Planning

We are just a few short weeks away from closing on our new house & we are so so so excited. One of the first things going down on closing day will be demo in the current kitchen. 

The layout of the kitchen is great, it is smaller than our current one, but has a great working triangle & lots of natural light. The biggest problem with the kitchen in its current state is the cabinets. They are old, the drawers hardly open, all of the shelves are missing inside of them, and the part that contains the current wall oven is falling apart all together. Also, I really wanted a totally different style of doors, so we decided to start from scratch. The current kitchen has an electric cooktop, and we will gas lines ran so that we can install a full size gas range with a hood above it, and plan to do some open shelving on either side of the hood. We ordered a white farm sink & plan to look at honed quartz counter tops this weekend. For years, I always imagined having an all white kitchen, but lately I have just been loving the warmth that grey cabinets bring to a room. We ordered our cabinets this week, they will come unfinished (can't wait to share more details about this!) so our next step is to finalize a paint color.

I love white subway tile, but after doing it with dark grout in our bathroom, I'm not sure I would ever do that again. I am leaning towards white tile & white grout, and really loving the herringbone pattern. A friend of mine walked me though doing this as a DIY, which would save quite a bit of money, but I am not sure I am skilled enough to do this. We shall see! ;)

Now for the fun part, choosing hardware! This is where I feel like the overall look will all come together, but I am stumped between what I thought I wanted (gold) and what I think may actually look better with our style of house (bronze + chrome). I love the idea of mixing metals, we will be painting or replacing all of the hardware in the house with a dark bronze finish, so most light fixtures will be this finish as well. I just LOVE the way gold hardware looks with grey, and think it would compliment the bronze so well, but that industrial chrome faucet?! All the heart eyes.

Accessorized with my favorite rug of course, I love a little purple in every room! ;)

 So I would love to get your vote! Bronze hardware with chrome faucet? Or gold hardware and a gold faucet? Or bronze + gold faucet and just skip the chrome?! So many choices! I feel like I always have visions of what I love, but it's the final stages of pulling things together that tend to stump me! ;)
